Welcome to the on-line home of The Edinburgh Bookshop; an independent bookshop in the Bruntsfield area of Edinburgh.

We stock an eclectic range of books from absorbing fiction to inspiring cookery and craft books; from thought-provoking biography and history titles to quirky books which make the perfect gifts. Children’s books are our speciality though – before we extended and merged with our sister shop, The Children’s Bookshop was Edinburgh’s finest outlet for children’s books and was shortlisted for national awards on a number of occasions. Even though both shops have been united into The Edinburgh Bookshop we still take great pride in our range of children’s books and in the knowledge and advice we can offer.

We do our utmost to provide a relaxed friendly environment in which to browse and if we don’t have the title you’re looking for – because we only have room for around 3,500 books – we can order in almost any title, often with delivery in less that 48 hours. Our opening hours are 9.15am to 5pm on Monday to Saturday and 12 noon to 5pm on Sunday. We offer discounts to students and to Society of Authors members.

We look forward to seeing you in the shop, but in the meantime, do take a look round the website. There are details of recent books we’ve read, forthcoming events, our blogs and if you follow the link at the top of the page, you can join our mailing list and receive our newsletters to keep you up to date with life at The Edinburgh Bookshop. You can become a friend of ours at Facebook and follow us on Twitter. And you can contact us if you have any questions or suggestions. We run three book groups, including one for children aged between about 10 to teens – let us know if you’re interested in joining one.

Virginia Woolf, Mrs. Dalloway

This is an extraordinary novel which has of late lost appeal for general reading audiences due to its daunting canonical status as a novel of modernist experimentation. Yet I really believe that this book deserves to be read for pleasure, and not just studied to be ‘understood’ and analysed. It’s a beautiful novel filled with lyrical descriptions of London in the early 20th century, an exploration of a shell-shocked mind, and a poetic exercise of psychological subjectivity, all infused with Read more...
