We are over the moon to be welcoming national treasure Julia Donaldson and award-winning illustrator Catherine Rayner to The Edinburgh Bookshop to sign copies of their new picture book, The Bowerbird!
Come along to meet Julia and Catherine, have photos taken and books signed. We absolutely loved The Go-Away Bird and can't wait to meet their new star Bert the bowerbird.
PLEASE NOTE that Julia and Catherine sadly won't be able to sign books brought from home. In order to keep to schedule, the queue will close at 12:15pm and we will be unable to admit latecomers.
You can pre-order The Bowerbird in-store, here on our website, or purchase copies from the bookshop on the day.
About the Book:
The Bowerbird is the irresistible tale of Bert - a small bird with a very big heart. Â Bert the bowerbird is looking for love. He has made the most perfect bower, complete with a pretty purple flower, and is hoping it will help him to meet the bird of his dreams. But when Nanette comes along, she is far from impressed. Poor Bert is hurt, and flies off to bring her presents a-plenty. But will it ever be enough, and is Nanette really right for Bert?
About the Authors:
Julia Donaldson has written some of the world's best-loved children's books, including modern classics The Gruffalo and The Gruffalo's Child, which together have sold over 25 million copies worldwide and have been translated into over one hundred languages. Her other books include Room on the Broom, Stick Man and Zog, illustrated by Axel Scheffler, The Hospital Dog, illustrated by Sara Ogilvie and the hugely successful What the Ladybird Heard adventures, illustrated by Lydia Monks. Julia also writes fiction, including the Princess Mirror-Belle series, illustrated by Lydia Monks, as well as poems, plays and songs – and her brilliant live shows are always in demand. She was the UK Children’s Laureate 2011–13 and has been honoured with a CBE for Services to Literature. Julia and her husband Malcolm divide their time between West Sussex and Edinburgh.

Her books have been adapted for musicals, television and theatre. Originally from Yorkshire, Catherine studied Illustration at Edinburgh College of Art. Â She fell in love with the city and still lives there with her husband, two young sons, and a small menagerie of animals, including the latest addition - a miniature dachshund called Otto. Catherine loves animals and is inspired by the creatures which surround her. Her second book, Harris Finds His Feet, won the 2009 CILIP Kate Greenaway Medal, and Catherine has now been shortlisted six times for this prestigious award.
