For Publishers
Why choose The Edinburgh Bookshop for your author event?

The Edinburgh Bookshop is (we hope) Edinburgh’s best independent bookshop and has been short-listed for The Booksellers’ retail awards in both the Independent Bookshop and Children’s Independent Bookseller categories.
The Children’s Bookshop opened in 2007, joined by a sister shop for ‘grown-ups’ just up the road in 2009. In 2010, we made the decision to reconfigure the premises in The Children’s Bookshop, almost doubling the retail space, and we merged both shops there under the name of The Edinburgh Bookshop.
We are able to host both small, informal events in-store and larger events in a range of local and city centre venues. We have sold out a capacity event (350) during the launch tour for The Graveyard Book and were delighted to host a similar event for local author Alexander McCall Smith. We’ve also hosted smalled events for authors such as Maggie O’Farrell, Simon Callow, Celia Rees, Phill Jupitus, Vivian French, Ian Rankin and Michelin-starred chef Tom Kitchin. During last summer’s Edinburgh Festival, we held one of our more surreal events to coincide with the launch of Robin Ince’s Bad Book Club – an evening which included tap dancing, a jazz band, a selection of other comedian playing the spoons and reading passages from the book and someone performing interpretive dance. It was a huge success and an evening that customers are still talking about.
We are always interested in hearing from authors and publishers interested in setting up events with us. Our customers are keen on hearing authors talk about their work and our events are usually very popular. Our customers receive updates, advance notice of new titles and forthcoming events via our weekly email newsletter which you can sign up to to on this website. We also have an active Facebook page and over 2,000 Twitter followers, giving us many ways in which to reach an audience. Children’s events are especially popular with our customers and we have excellent links with local schools who are enthusiastic hosts to authors we take to meet their pupils.
