About Us
Vanessa manages The Edinburgh Bookshop, as well as Fidra Books. She liaises with publishing companies and authors, and does the dreaded VAT return. She also writes regularly (ish) on the Fidra Blog about books, bookselling and life as an independent publisher.
Malcolm is our technical whizz. He builds and looks after our website; oversees the production of our books and makes the numbers add up. Formerly a university physicist, Malcolm’s also in charge of selecting much of the non-fiction stock for the shop.
Cat is our hugely knowledgeable children’s specialist and she loves reading stories out loud to anyone who will listen; Lila is our part-time bookseller: originally from America, she is studying for a PhD about Scottish poetry magazines from the 1960s; and Brenda, a keen reader and often the voice of calm in the organised chaos of the bookshop. You might also see Magnus (age 11) and Teaga (our Leonberger mountain dog) who’s a 9 stone ball of fur and has her own followers on Twitter.
