About Us
The Edinburgh Bookshop is owned and run by Malcolm and Vanessa Robertson, who also own The Children’s Bookshop and a publishing company, Fidra Books.
We founded Fidra Books in 2005, a publishing company which specialises in reprinting children’s books which we feel are unfairly neglected and deserve to be back in print. Our books range from 1930s adventure stories to iconic 1960s fantasy novels and from pony books by Carnegie medal winning authors to contemporary boarding school stories.
In 2007, we decided to open The Children’s Bookshop in Bruntsfield: Edinburgh’s only children’s independent bookshop. Since opening, The Children’s Bookshop has been shortlisted for a Nibbie for Scottish Children’s Independent Bookshop of the Year and a Bookseller Award for Best Children’s Independent Bookshop of the Year.
Encouraged by the bookshop’s success, we decided to open a summer gallery of work by children’s illustrators. In September 2009, the gallery became The Edinburgh Bookshop.
